ABOUT ME

Mara - it's me

Artist/Painter since 1999

I started my artistic journey by studying Fine Arts at Kent University in the UK, where I also worked for the Kent's Giant Gallery. My first showcase and sales experience in Slovakia was at the Toha Bratislava gallery. In addition to my art, I worked in advertising and publishing, as well as teaching art and drawing to children. I began selling my art independently in 2005 and have since collaborated with architects, galleries, and other institutions. My love of architecture and minimalism is reflected in my work, which focuses on basic visual perceptions that are ever-changing. Subjects of my interest are placed within the plane of static peace and harmony. They are not burdened by controversial topics, deep thinking, drama nor depression. My art is easily understood and does not weigh heavily on an interior space or a person's life. I have a particular affinity for the color white, which I use extensively in my work. For me, white represents space, light, purity, and transparency in architecture. It creates a sense of relief in artwork while also disturbing with contrast. Another source of inspiration for me is nature, specifically flora and trees. The fresh shades of green color are something that I incorporate into my work. I have deliberately created a happy view of the surrounding greenery for myself in my atelier. Each year, I plant at least one tree.
